There is no shortage of pictures coming out of Haiti right now; in fact, if you were to visit the Coast Guard flickr account (here) or the CGVI page (here) you’ll be presented with a deluge of photos coming out of there. The Coast Guard’s own service blog is also ripe with stories like this putting words behind said pictures for a better understanding of the local devastation… from the perspective of our folks on the ground.

However, with all these pictures the Coast Guard, other services, and the media are taking I would have to pin the one I’m showing here as THE single most telling, and the single most iconic Coast Guard response photo of our time in Haiti thus far. The caption from said photo is-

Petty Officer 2nd Class Jose Estrada, an Information Technician aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma, rushes an injured Haitian girl to an awaiting Coast Guard HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter Jan. 19, 2010. The Coast Guard and Navy both provided aircrews to medevac the injured to Milot, Haiti to receive additional assistance. U.S. Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer 3rd Class Brandyn Hill.

Even our Commandant’s Facebook page is showing the photo as his icon…
