This is just a post on some nice formations put onto film (digitally at least) showing off some of our Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawks. You can find these and more on the Coast Guard’s CGVI page; and Petty Officer 1st Class Sara Francis is the rockstar who’s responsible for ‘em. It’s great way to start the weekend- besides for those of us who are living in those area where Continue reading…

Oh well- it happens. FORCECOM posted an update on their blog that the Coast Guard made a little mistake in noting the LT Thomas Shuler (as posted here) was the first USCG UAV pilot; however,
CDR Tony Saliceti is the first pilot to qualify in a UAS Predator B for the Coast Guard, accomplishing this feat in January 2008. He was hand selected to assist Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Continue reading…

A minimal but usable update on the state of the Coast Guard Unmanned Arial Vehicle program was presented over Sunday via Navytimes. Reading through the headlines presented to me in my RSS reader I saw a headline reading 2 Coast Guardsmen rescued off Alaska coast and my head began shaking in embarrassment. I’m not embarrassed for the two that were rescued, nor for the Coast Guard- no, it’s just odd to read that we had to go and get one of our own. And I know my wife will say the same Continue reading…

CG-1705 Tribute Wallpaper
I realize I’ve been posting quite some bit on the lost crew of the Coast Guard C-130, CG-1705, but please understand that this event has had a serious impact on both the whole service and specifically the tight C-130 community. When I received the phone call in the Command Center that Friday morning (it was Thursday on the West Coast) my stomach began to feel ill as Continue reading…
