Have a policy issue in the USCG Reserve Force? Here's your chance to change it...

ALCOAST 117/10 we’re given the process for submitting topics and issues that you think should be brought before the board. Though I’ve never submitted items to the RPB myself I’ve assisted in drafting a memo for a considered issue- it was enlightening to say the least.

If you have an issue that is or may be a problem for the entire Coast Guard Reserved force I encourage you to read Continue reading…

Coast Guard Mandated Training (MT)... hey, it could be worse

The world of General Mandated Training (GMT) Mandated Training (MT) can be a dizzying foray of information to have to process. More oft than not you’ll sit around and ignore the emails from your local training officer telling to make your way to “the portal” and do your mandated training. Only you know for sure you just did it last month (maybe). Well I, by way of a recent ALCOAST Continue reading…

Coast Guard Public Affairs is taking control; and it's a good thing

CGA PIER Site

This post will actually be somewhat delayed but only be a few days as I’m on a self induced hiatus from blogging or any real ‘online’ social media interaction due to time constraints with school and family. But since it only takes my a moment I’ll take a pause from my papers and write a post…

On 17 February (yesterday as I write this, last week for publishing) Continue reading…

Today we start the end of LORAN-C on a historical note

A “holy cow” amount of new Coast Guard (CGMS) information

This morning I awoke to a fairly large update of ALCOAST messages from the past few days on the public side. Among them were these:

This is one of the most useful of the bunch as this is the one that will, or rather has, knocked you out of 100% compliance with your GMT. Be sure to read about Continue reading…

What you need to know to have an "official" Coast Guard blog [updated]

It’s been a long time coming but the folks a CG-0922 have released a new CGMS message with workable guidelines on working with and using a unit blog and where to find the pertinent information that’s needed to get one going (ALCOAST 008/10: SOCIAL MEDIA – USE OF COMMERCIAL BLOG TECHNOLOGY FOR OFFICIAL DUTIES). The overall process, though seemingly easy, is sure to be time consuming; not that setting one Continue reading…
