This wonder was sitting outside the house this morning when I got back from the store. He just stayed there as if he was posing for a photo; as soon as I was done he flew off. He’s a Canadian Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, and we/I know it’s a male as noted by the four black “tiger stripes” on each forewing. Not bad for a “right place, right time” photo, ‘eh?

The folks at (via their awesome app) corrected my thinking and noted that it’s actually an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, not a Canadian. In hindsight, that makes a lot more sense.
