"An absolute mess of sound and rhythm… and I LOVE it!”
I have a habit of not seeing a moving until after I’ve listened to the soundtrack- it’s kind of what I do. I don’t want the visuals to change my thoughts on the underlying sounds that are capable of telling the story too.
The album has 14 songs and comes in at 40 minutes of playing time. A fast and energetic 40 minutes to be sure. As the sounds start with the first song, Old Neighborhood, and runs through the fifth one, The Reprimand, there’s a definite crescendo of noise and energy reviled to the listener. You can feel the vigor build upon itself as the songs progress in order.
Jeb, though he’s got credits going back as far as 2006 (per IMDB), has really come to the forefront of the pack and has shown how powerful a soundtrack can be. I honestly haven’t been this excited for a soundtrack since Marco Beltrami’s Logan soundtrack.
On my personal “one-to-five” scale I give this one a four-point-two-five. I highly recommend you check it out when you get a chance. It’s a quick and energy packed album perfect for the gym or a brain teaser on that long drive. In case you cared, number seven, Old Bones, is my favorite song on the album.
