About
This is where I publish fiction: thrillers, serialized free, one Friday at a time.
I served in the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment in 1995 and 1998. After the Army came search and rescue: 19+ years in the U.S. Coast Guard world, from law enforcement, the planning side, policy, doctrine, and emergency management, to the end of the job where none of that matters, pulling people out of the water. I've sat in the rooms where the response (war and rescue) gets designed, and I've been on the cases where the design meets weather, fear, and luck. Today, I serve as Chief Data Officer of the International Association of Search and Rescue Coordinators (IASARC.org), a full-time Project Manager, and I publish SAR Times, a weekly intelligence brief read by rescue professionals around the world.
That background is the spine of the fiction. Cold Trigger's Declan Mase is a Ranger because I know what that training builds and what it costs to carry home. The rescues, the radio calls, the planning cells, the bureaucratic paperwork that can save a life or bury a truth: I'm not imagining how those rooms work.
The stories here are published as free weekly serials. Start anywhere:
Cold Trigger, a thriller trilogy about a widowed Ranger, his two daughters, and a conspiracy that starts with a lane closure on a mountain pass.
New installments arrive on Friday mornings. Members read ahead and get the extras; everything eventually reaches everyone. If you want the nonfiction side of my desk, SAR Times covers international search and rescue at sartimes.com, and The Stoic PM covers leading projects without losing your mind at thestoic.pm.
The fiction on this site is fiction. It runs under an invented administration, and no real party, politician, or movement is depicted. The rescue procedures, the radio discipline, and the cost of the work: those parts are real.

One more thing, since people occasionally ask where else the coffee money should go: there's a tip option on the site, unconnected to the membership tier, no obligation and no strings. If a chapter, a book, or the whole strange project of a Ranger turned rescuer turned novelist has been worth something to you, that's what it's there for. Nothing changes if you never click it.
